Traffic and Transportation Issues

Orange County residents have not changed their commuting habits over the past 20 years: Eight in 10 still commute to work by driving alone. In the last 10 years, the perception of traffic problems also hasn't changed: Six in 10 still say traffic congestion is a problem and two in 10 say it is a great problem on their commute to work. When asked to name their favorite transportation projects for Orange County, residents were equally likely to say building a light rail system (36%) and widening freeways (33%), while fewer named more buses or more carpool lanes. The county's toll roads are popular: 54 percent say they have been a good thing for Orange County, and 59 percent favor the construction of the Foothill Toll Road South.
