THE
ENVIRONMENT
Orange County's conservatism appears to include a commitment
to environmental conservation. Almost two-thirds of residents agree
that "stricter environmental regulations are worth the cost,"
while fewer than three in 10 think stricter environmental regulations
cost too many jobs. These findings are similar to the PPIC Statewide
Survey of Californians in January 2000 and a national survey by the
Pew Research Center in 1999. In Orange County, Democrats (69%) and independent
voters (68%) are more likely than Republicans (57%) to believe that
stricter environmental regulations are worth the economic cost. There
are no differences between Latinos and non-Hispanic whites.

environmental regulations and laws cost too many jobs, or stricter environmental
regulations and laws are worth the cost.”
