The 1997 Orange County Annual Survey, now in its 16th year,
provides an in-depth look at how well the nation's fifth most populous
county is coping with problems related to its rapid growth and changing
demographics. The survey monitors political, social and economic trends,
and is used as a tool by government leaders for making public policy decisions.
The survey is conducted by Mark Baldassare, chair of UCI's Department
of Urban and Regional Planning, and research associate Cheryl Katz.
